PhD Position in Scientific Databases for Long Term Digital Preservation (with focus on Earth Science)
!
The Large-Scale Scientific Information Systems (L-SIS) group [1] is seeking excellent graduate students interested in pursuing a PhD in Computer Science in the area of Long Term Digital Preservation (with focus on Earth Science).
To ensure Digital Earth Archives are both sustainable and sustained for the long term, services and tools are delivered to help to access and explore digital content now and future [2]. adopting a database-centric approach, the L-SIS group has a reputation in
- Array Databases, with its rasdaman system [3] being the currently most advanced and operationally used Big Array Data Analytics system
- standardization of geo raster services [4], including geo raster processing query languages.
Working closely with colleagues across the group as well as internationally (e.g., the European Space Agency), this is an opportunity to contribute to safe Digital Earth Archives from being lost.
Requirements: A strong background in computer science, willingness to work hard, and interest in research are all must-haves. A solid knowledge in Web/databases (including substantial programming experience) is also essential. Strong GRE scores and (if English is not a native language) good TOEFL scores are a plus.
Interested candidates should contact Jinsongdi YU (j.yu@jacobs-university.de) by emailing a motivation letter, CV, transcripts, and at least one reference.
