thanks alot for your time and guidance .infact i had sent them two proposals like spectrum mobility in CRN,wireless sensor networks etc. but my supervisor wanted me to work on physical layer but my background is computer sc and i have already worked on CR but he didnot accept my proposal related to CR. so thats why i am in search of some good suggestion or guidance.thanks again.

I'm just wondering how you got selected for PhD without writing a proposal or without even knowing about the area. Here are some hot topics in networking.
Wireless Optical Broadband Access Network (WOBAN)-- This is a hot contemporary research field. There are so many areas in this field like QoS, Efficient Routing. Most of work is done on Energy Efficiency in WOBAN these days. I have also worked on Green WOBAN for quite sometime at CEET, UoMelbourne, Australia.
SOWNs--Heterogenous Self Organizing Wireless Networks. This is one of the latest topics in networking and a lot of work is being done in this area at NICTA and ANU, Australia. You can work on Self-Organizing Wireless HetNet Networks and specifically investigate techniques and methods to improve the performance of such systems.
OpenFlow- This is another latest and hot research areas. I believe, OpenFlow will have very sound future.
Similarly another very good topic is Cognitive Radio Networks.
I cannot cover every thing in a single email. Plz google them. You'll find a lot about these topics.
Besides if you want to go Optical Networks Side, there is a lot of room for research in DOCS, OBS, DWDM-PON. I think at this stage, you should be very clear about your topic.
