National Grassroots ICT Research Initiative (NGIRI) 2012-13 – Deadline Extended

National ICT R&D Fund rolled-out the pilot version of National Grassroots ICT Research Initiative in the academic year 2011-12. The purpose of this initiative is to enable students undertaking Final Year Projects (FYPs) in building prototypes and working models to showcase their creativity and innovation by applying hands on engineering and development skills. The funding covers the cost for purchase of equipment and miscellaneous costs related to the development of prototypes in addition to some stipend for students and honorarium for FYP supervisors.

For the academic year 2012-13 the roll-out is being carried out with a higher budget as follows:

  • Equipment: Maximum up to Rs. 65,000/-
  • Miscellaneous: Maximum up to Rs. 10,000/-
  • Stipend for Students For up to 4 Students @ Rs.3,750/- per student
  • Honorarium for FYP Supervisor Rs.10,000/- (only for one FYP supervisor)

National ICT R&D Fund had advertised this program through social media, posters, and advertisement in newspapers. Video-conference sessions with universities across the country were held on 7th and 8th January 2013 using the Higher Education Commission (HEC) facilities.

We had received multiple requests from universities to extend the deadline for submission of "FYP Nomination Forms" and in order to maximize the participation from all provinces/regions of the country it is informed that the deadline for receipt of the applications has been extended to 1st February 2013.

All VC/Rectors are requested to sign the "Terms & Conditions" of the initiative and return them to the Fund's office. All FYP supervisors and Chairmen of ICT related departments are requested to facilitate the students to send in their applications urgently to receive funding for approved FYPs in time.
