Okay, Joe checked last night and we still receive programming on 101, 110
and 119.

We also receive 99 (c), but not 99 (s) ... and, 103 (ca) & (cb), but not 103
(c).

So, is 110 and 119 our distant network programming and 99 and 103 HDTV?

Maybe you can clarify it a bit, Don.

Barb

Don,

You're not being argumentative at all ... I appreciate updated information.

Last time Joe checked, we were still receiving service on 101/110/119 and a
couple of others, so now we need to go check. ;-)

Take care,

Barb

I hate to be argumentative, but this information is outdated. It applied
when DirecTV used 101/110/119 for HD.

Now that they use 99/101/103, and do not use 110/119 at all, one of the
assignments were you cannot get HDTV is 99.

To get HD on DirecTV today you need a special LNB and BOW mount. Some people
do their own, and has been mentioned by someone else, Don Marr at Oregon
Satellite is making one commercially. That HD BOW can be used with internet
assignments at 83W/87W/89W/91W/113W/117W but not with 95W/99W/127W

See http://www.tvbowkits.com/ for details.

Yes, that is what I was thinking of ... I'm very much informed about StarBand Internet service, but not at all on TV. ;-)

The old universal BOW will bring in TV signals from 6 to 20 degrees from the Internet service. You can use 2 LNBs on the adjustable bar.

The old "lipstick" LNB brings in a TV signal 2 degrees away.

We still have several of the old BOWs and maybe a lipstick or two.

I don't know where you are getting this information, Barb. I am on 83W for Internet, and have HDTV on 99/101/103 with an SL3 LNB from DirecTV. It will work with a number of Internet assignments, but nothing within 6 degrees of 101. Perhaps you are thinking of the old "HD" that used 101, 110, and 119 for TV?

Charles,

You can get DirecTV at 101 on a BOW, if your Internet assignment is between
107 W and !31 W, with a universal BOW AND you have the fiberglass dish.

You can only get the full complement of HDTV if you are on either 99 or 117
and 117 may not be an option much longer.

We have some used BOWs on hand, so if you are interested, please contact me
privately.

Take care,

Barb

Barb, if you have a standard slimline, which can get 99/101/103/110/119 then
you will see signal strength on 110 and 119. What you will NOT see is any
channel coming from those latter two.

Your distant networks could be on any of the 99/101/103 satellites, although DirecTV doesn't publish which channels are on which satellites or transponders. The (s) transponders are spotbeam, while (c) are CONUS (nationwide). The only way you could prove (or disprove) my assertion that nothing comes from 110/119 would be to put tinfoil over the large (99/101/103) LNB and see if there are any channels actually showing broadcasting.

Lyngsat http://www.lyngsat.com/packages/directvusa119.html says that 119 is spot-beam locals and foreign language stuff. There was very little on 110, and http://www.lyngsat.com/DirecTV-5.html does not show any now.

The standard home installation is a Slimline 3, which does not ss the 110/119 satellites. I know that for awhile they were still installing Slimline 5s in places where the locals came in on 119, and that may still be true.

Don,

I feel no need to prove or disprove whether or not we receive any
programming on 110 or 119. Since I saw that email from you, that there is
none, it answered the remaining questions.

Joe and I value you as a source of good information, :-)
