I "shut down" hughes.net about 3 months ago (changed to gmail and Verizon), still getting emails form hughes.nrt. Friend did the same about 8 months ago, same thing. Not sure when they will shut it down, I may just stop checking it.

I have never asked a tech question but thought I would see what others have found out about this. We are considering putting our Hughes Net service on suspension while we go south for the winter. Our "smart" phones will keep us connected but I am wondering about the hughes net email addresses we have. Will they still be valid or do we need to go to a Gmail account? I think I saw in an earlier post that as long as the account isn't cancelled and on suspension only the email stays active, correct?

Thanks for all the info guys, I think we are going to suspend for at least 4 months or so. Guess I will find out the hard way if I stop getting mail. By the way, we have been with Hughesnet for 5 years or so now and am wondering if we cancelled the service all together what kind of problems would a person run into if they decided to "start up" again using Hughesnet? Would this mean a new 2 year contract or could we go through a VAR and just set up an account through them so we are not obligated to Hughes for another two years? Just tossing around ideas as it seems like my service has been getting progressively slower in the last month or so and we are getting beyond frustrated with it.
Thanks again for all the info, great place to come and "learn"
Steve in Idaho (for now).

We purchase a used system, tripod, modem off of ebay. We used it on a month to month contract. We suspended it End of Sept. Going for the full 6 mths. At that time will see if we want to restart it.
