Cool ... thanx for the update. :-)

Everything that I've ever read says that it will EVENTUALLY fall out of
orbit and burn up on reentry. It will become unuseable before that happens.

Take care,

Barb

Intermittent anything is not a symptom of what will happen when it fails (it
won't fall, either, but it will be unusable).

SatMex8, the replacement, is currently scheduled for launch on March 26th.
It was completed and delivered at the beginning of December, but there have
been problems with the launch facilities that have delayed it.

Hmmmm? I wonder if SatMex5 is finally starting to fall out of its orbit.
That was predicted for 2012, but never happened.

Anyone hear any status as to launch of a replacement for SatMex5?

Take care,
Barb

If by "eventually" they meant centuries from now, then maybe. It's a long ways from geosync orbit to atmosphere.

Does this mean that this will keep up until the new satellite is on station and we are switched to it?

Your symptoms are not indicative of what would be expected due to the satellite failure. The failure is on your end (transmission) and not on the satellite end (reception).

Pointing accuracy and transmit cable issues would be the first things suspect, particularly cable.
