Yahooties!

I understand that delayed posting has been an ongoing problem with Yahoo groups. They keep saying they are working on it but they don't seem to be making much head way. I had it happen to me on another group, when I didn't see my message show up I just posted it again and it went right through. Then the first one showed up a week or so later.

I don't know if you noticed, but on my delayed one only my Yahoo screen name showed up - normally both name and screen name are shown in the web listing of messages.

I've been away from group for some time... please advise if DW7000 modem is still useable. Can this be used for new hughesnet subscription? Is it worth the attempt? YES or NO

No it can't. The only used modem that you can get commissioned for mobile
use is the HN7000s.

Don't forget about "the other guys"!

StarBand is also an option and you can get your installer certification so
it's OK to move your dish!

So, what's the data allowances with Starband?

Can I mount a StarBand antenna on my RV?

Not at this time. The StarBand antenna not only receives from but also
transmits to the satellite; the installation must be performed with
exact precision and in accordance with FCC standards.

And how is this different from the many HughesNet or iDirect customers out there with RV-mounted dishes? They all receive AND transmit to the satellites.

Is Starband a Ka-band system? That would make the aiming requirements more precise, and rule out the current generation of automatic dish controllers, which are KU-band only.

What on earth does "the installation must be performed with
exact precision and in accordance with FCC standards" mean.
Doesn't any transmitter within certain watts has to meet FCC to
parameters. Wouldn't the parameters be the same for Starband
and Service on Hughes??

I have seen a number of mobile Starband users out there in RVs.

Yes, all transmitting earth stations have to be aimed with precision. Hughes
and Starband are no different in that regard, although how the tools for
accomplishing that task differ between the two systems.

You're asking specifically about "on" an RV? If you put a Starband Dish on a
Motosat, my understanding is that it works the same as a Hughesnet dish. But
I'm not in any way qualified to talk about Motosats so I'll leave that up to
the Motosat experts.

How are they different? Just how can Starband work on an RV?

You're the one that stated Starband can't work on an RV. Why not, if other providers can?

Because that's what Starband says on their website!

If someone has found a way to make it work, I would like to know.

Most folks understand that Starband and Hughes do not support service
on RVs. That doesn't mean it won't work, however.

The companies don't want to get into the costly customer service support
that comes with so many less knowledgeable mobile users. Their business
model is for the fixed user where one time set up is all that is needed.
They
use local contracted service techs tom support this plan. The number of
RVers aren't enough to take on that burden to make it worthwhile. As a
result they take the position that RVs aren't supported.

Direct TV and Dish TV went through this years back as I recall.

On the other hand, some VARs support helping RVers. DataStorm took on
this challenge to get their expensive auto-seek product into the market.
They
also seem to understand that many folks are quite capable of setting up
their
own equipment and will activate modems. Other VARs will also activate
modems for those wanting to do their own mobile set up.

This forum really helps those willing to delve into their own set up.

So... "It's not so much what the General says as it is what the General
means"
.... :-))
