Can a Hughs Net 9200 be used in an RV?

Simple answer is no. The longer answer is that technically it could, but you would have to find someone (a VAR) using the 9200 on Ku-Band.

I don't think there is any VAR using the 9200. Hughes uses it, but only with Ka-Band. The modem is capable of both.

VARs that use advanced modems use the HX series, which is somewhat more capable than the 9200.

Not unless you are at a location where Hughes actually installed the antenna. It will not work in a mobile environment like your RV, moving around the world at will. The Hughes HN7000s modem (and appropriate antenna hardware) is what you would need. The modem you are asking about uses a spot beam while the one I mention will work throughout the US and, depending on what satellite you are on, much of Mexico or Canada.

Internet & TV with one dish?

Posted by: "charles" mcchuck1999@yahoo.com   mcchuck1999

Back in 2007 I had direct tv and hughsnet using one dish. Do you know of a service available that you can get tv and internet using one dish? I have both direct tv and hughsnet, but I need 2 different dishes. I have only had them since September 2011, so I will have to pay for the 2 year contract, but I hate the idea of setting up 2 dishes.

Charles:

You can use a Motosat F1 or similar dish, with a "Bird on a Wire" attachment. The "BOW" is a side arm that does a bank shot off the dish to the TV satellite. So the Motosat finds the internet satellite and when it finds it, the TV satellite is also, by default, lined up.

It works fine.

I have an HD BOW from Oregon RV Satellite Service. It works great.

I bought my Motosat Datastorm F1 dish used at a quite attractive price and installed it myself.

I suppose you could do the same thing with a tripod system, but I've not done that.

I am still using one dish for Dishnet and Hughes. It all depends on what satellites you want to pick up for TV and what satellite your on for Hughes.

What kind of service do you have with Hughes for internet? It is home based, or can you use it with your RV, relocating at will? It sounds like what you have is home based, and you likely are using something other than the HN7000s modem for internet? If your internet service is using the spot beamed technology, then you will not be able to go mobile with it.

Automatic dish or manual (tripod)?

You can still get the parts to get DirecTV or Dish on a Motosat Datastorm dish. Requires you be getting your HughesNet service from certain satellites. Which satellite are you assigned right now?

The dish setup is really independent of your DirecTV and HughesNet accounts. You'll still need contracts for both, so you shouldn't need to do anything about your current one, unless it's direct with Hughes (not through a VAR). If you need to switch to a different satellite in order to make the multi-LNB setup (aka BOW) work, then you might need to pay a VAR to make that happen.

Charles,

You can get DirecTV at 101 on a BOW, if your Internet assignment is between
107 W and !31 W, with a universal BOW AND you have the fiberglass dish.

You can only get the full complement of HDTV if you are on either 99 or 117
and 117 may not be an option much longer.

We have some used BOWs on hand, so if you are interested, please contact me
privately.

Take care,

Barb

I hate to be argumentative, but this information is outdated. It applied when DirecTV used 101/110/119 for HD.

Now that they use 99/101/103, and do not use 110/119 at all, one of the assignments were you cannot get HDTV is 99.

To get HD on DirecTV today you need a special LNB and BOW mount. Some people do their own, and has been mentioned by someone else, Don Marr at Oregon Satellite is making one commercially. That HD BOW can be used with internet assignments at 83W/87W/89W/91W/113W/117W but not with 95W/99W/127W

See http://www.tvbowkits.com/ for details.

Don,

You're not being argumentative at all ... I appreciate updated information.

Last time Joe checked, we were still receiving service on 101/110/119 and a
couple of others, so now we need to go check. ;-)

Take care,

Barb

I don't know where you are getting this information, Barb. I am on 83W for Internet, and have HDTV on 99/101/103 with an SL3 LNB from DirecTV. It will work with a number of Internet assignments, but nothing within 6 degrees of 101. Perhaps you are thinking of the old "HD" that used 101, 110, and 119 for TV?

Barb, if you have a standard slimline, which can get 99/101/103/110/119 then you will see signal strength on 110 and 119. What you will NOT see is any channel coming from those latter two.
