RE: [pakgrid] Bangladesh Made First Domestically Laptop

Asalam o Aliekum,

I've realized that there are many graduates, even myself, not aware of how to business in the country thus looking for a job. I googled the topic and I came across the report of Doing Business in Pakistan by United States and I was surprised to see so many business opportunities in Pakistan that were highlighted by a foreign country. The report also highlighted the strategy of entering the local market. It compelled me to further research the topic. Therefore, I am working on the it compile them in form of book. The work is still in progress.

However, during my research I came to know there are three Pakistani PC brands that have established their manufacturing facility in Pakistan. These are

  • MangoPC
           http://mangopc.com
  • INBOX
           http://www.inboxbiz.com
  • Raffles Systems

These small and medium enterprises (SMEs) must be supported in order to give them the stability in the local market. Promoting local brands will them a boom and they can create an impression not only in Pakistan but also across the globe. Also when we buy the first local product, we might come across some flaw, in this situation we must communicate to the company so that they can remove the flaws and increase their sales to create more job opportunities to decrease the percentage of people below poverty line. It must be kept in mind that manufacturing is capital intensive and requires customer support to progress further.

About PTCL, it is not owned by a Pakistani as the government privatized it and now Its owned by a Dubai company. So Even if it makes such a product, Pakistan would then be importing it, not producing it.

Subject: RE: [pakgrid] Bangladesh Made First Domestically Laptop

Dear All:

Well, to the best of my knowledge, first laptop in Pakistan was marketed around ten years back with the brand of "INBOX". Later several other efforts were made but price wars and rapid technological changes threw the local products out of the market.

We also need to analyse in detail that what Bangladesh has made and how sustainable is that particularly with the current advances in IPAD and copy IPAD with google chrome and other capabilities.

In the absence of an indigenous vendor base and large production facilities , competitive price can not be  achieved. Not to speak of Pakistan /Bangladesh, even India which is much stronger in indigenous industry/production base is still not able to compete any electronics hardware with China. However, what is important in this case is the realization to identify our strong areas where we can perform better andcompetetive than China and they include value added micro controller applications and programming , hardware descriptive language/FPGA programming and application products /other value added soft technologies tailored to specific needs of micro and SME sectors are the areas which can transform and strengthen the indigenous technology base as well can significantly contribute in increasing technical exports of Pakistan.

Note: PTCL neither has any such vision nor they have the capability to produce IPADs/tablets these are all Chinese products which are being branded and marketed.

Kindest regards.

Sincerely yours
