I hope this email finds you in good health and spirits. I am enclosing my thesis questionnaire with this email. Its a 2 page questionnaire. The purpose of the thesis is to determine the factors that affect the markup size decision of contractors. Markup is the amount added over the base estimate to cover head office overhead, contingencies/uncertainties and profit. Unlike direct costs for which the QTO can be easily be done of material, equipment and labor etc, markup is largely based on perception of the executive management based on company's strategic position in market, need for work, current work load and a number of other factors.
This thesis also attempts to determine the methods used to judge competition in the market. There are many strategic bidding models in literature. These are based on statistics. The questionnaire attempts to determine if these are used in our local industry.
