Dear all:

(apologies if you receive multiple copies---please forward to whom you
believe it may be interested)

The Information Security Group is seeking to appoint a Post Doctorate
Research Assistant as part of the Cyber Security Cartographies
(CySeCa) project, which has been awarded to the Information Security
Group, Royal Holloway, University of London. The overall goal of the
project is to develop both organizational and technical security
cartographies that help information security managers to make
effective information security management decisions (situational
awareness).

Focus of this post is on the technical aspect of CySeCa: to mine
network and host behavior and create suitable visualization models for
it to enable easy-to-manage policy enforcements.

The CySeCa project is part of the Research Institute in the Science of
Cyber Security, which is a joint initiative between EPSRC
(http://www.gchq.gov.uk/) and GCHQ (http://www.gchq.gov.uk/). The
ultimate objective of the Institute is to improve Cyber Security
across the public and private sectors in response to UK government
strategy
(http://www.cabinetoffice.gov.uk/resource-library/cyber-security-strategy).
The Information Security Group is recognised as an Academic Centre of
Excellence for Cyber Security Research
(http://www.gchq.gov.uk/Press/Pages/Cyber-Security-Research-Centres-of-Excellence.aspx)
and the CySeCa project is an important activity in the group's cyber
security research programme.

Candidates with interests in the broad area of systems and network
security and visualisation with a background in application behavior
characterization are encouraged to apply. The successful applicants
should have a BSc and/or MSc (or equivalent) and a PhD in a CS/Eng or
related discipline.

The full time appointment is available from mid November 2012 or as
soon as possible thereafter for a fixed term period until the 1st
April 2014, although they may be extended for up to an additional 24
months.  Salary is in the range £32,256 to £38,072 per annum inclusive
of London Allowance. These posts are based in Egham, Surrey, some 30
minutes from Central London with excellent rail and air links.

For an informal discussion about the post, please contact Dr. Lorenzo
Cavallaro at <lorenzo.cavallaro@rhul.ac.uk>.
