I think in parallel to such efforts we need to institutionalize ecosystem that supports entrepreneurship. I recommend following simple steps for universities:
- All BS FYP from engineering, computer science etc. should be delivered to Business school as soon as these projects are approved.
- BBA and MBA students should be encouraged to develop business plans for engineering FYP as BBA or MBA FYP.
- 10% additional credit towards grade in FYP should be given to BBA and MBA students who take up engineering FYP projects for their business FYP.
- Similarly 10% additional credit towards grade in FYP should be given to engineering students whose FYP is selected by business students.
- FYP that are submitted to DISCOVER (http://discover-nustbpc.info/
) type programs should be given 5% additional points. - Projects that win rounds of business plans should be given additional 5% points for each round.
- In parallel we should start inviting entrepreneurs from industry to describe their bottlenecks and challenges to students.
My hope is that once formal connectivity between technical and business programs is created at students project level, efforts like Entrepreneurship week will become much more effective. At present it is really difficult to sustain impact of such programs beyond their small duration and measure their impact.
