I have had similar problems off and on. It is terribly annoying to say
the least. I rely on this system for communication as I am often in
areas with no phone service. I went through my tech support people and
they had no answers or real solutions. They were able to have Hughes
check my system remotely - everything checked out OK. It does the same
thing on both of my computers. I am on 83W. My guess is that Hughes
just does not want to bother with us. I cannot afford the alternatives
that I am aware of. So I bumble on and curse the time I have to waste to
get my jobs done! Pages often load much more slowly than they normally do.

I shut down hughesnet/MotoSat for the following reasons. Been having problems staying connected for about 3 months before throwing in the towel, progressively getting worse. Tried to call MotoSat then Hughes. Hughes wouldn't talk to me. Tried to shut down MotoSat and signing up directly with Hughes, but couldn't find anyone there that didn't want to bolt an antenna to the side of my motorhome. Tried through Real Time and they were basically messengers from Hughes and they gave me solutions that didn't work. Would have all the lights on, everything normal but still could not connect.
Finally got through to Hughes Support. I retired from Hughes and worked on some of the satellites back when, been awhile so it took me some time to connect with tech support. Finally got a tech support guy and I told him the hardware I had. I asked him if Hughes relegated us to transponders that were marginal and he didn't deny that. It was getting to be a pain and it was expensive and slow so we went to the Verizon share everything plan. Works everyplace we've been, minimal problems and lots of support if we need it. Less expensive too.
Not sure if its possible to get the latest stuff from Hughes and get on their new satellites. Looked at the MotoSat website and got a transfer to OilCom, no info available but I'm sure it's gonna be a lot more expensive than aircards! Not exactly sure what to do with my MotoSat equipment, think it's a "boat anchor"!!

As I understand it, Hughes is phasing out the Datastorm. I have had
failures in many directions. Cordell Satellite in Charlotte, NC has
been VERY helpful.
I only WISH Verizon would work well for me. I got this dish because I am
VERY OFTEN in places with zero service otherwise. I suppose I'll be
hanging in until the bitter end.
The next step up, as I understand it, would be IDirect - but that is a
different dish (about $10,000) and $140/month. Way out of my league!

Hughes never had a Datastorm, so of course they can't phase it out. Motosat is the owner of the Datastorm brand, and they have been going through major difficulties of late, essentially disappearing for more than a month, but they say they are back to making things, and have a rudimentary website up.
Motosat has not been a provider of Hughes service for almost a year now, and Hughes gave all their accounts to RTC. Even if Motosat were fully functional they could do (as is the case for RTC) nearly zero about any problem with service.
Now as to issues with Hughes service on a Datastorm or a tripod: If you have followed discussions here and elsewhere you should know this: ALL the time historically there are people having issues; speed, failure to connect, FAP, etc. At the same time, others, probably a majority, are not having trouble at all. That includes right now, where fundamentally nothing has changed.
For users who are not direct with Hughes the answer to problems has been the same since 2002: Change satellites! RTC can do that with a phone call. If the next one you are moved to has problems, Change satellites! There are 10 of them, and countless gateways.
None of the above should imply that I would argue with those who choose to use Verizon. Personally I have both, and I probably use a mix something like this these days: 40% park WiFi, 40% Verizon, and 20% Hughes. That is not because I'm having any problems with my Hughes connection; I am not, but simply put the others work better most of the time.

Teddy:
I know what you mean by needing the service where you travel. We too go to endurance rides way out in the boon docks and have the hughes service so I can upload photos from the ride site. We found in the last year that a cell phone booster from the Wilson company in St George Utah really helped us get a data connection where others did not have service. We use Verizon and there have only been a couple of places where we have not been able to get service. It works so well that we bought a BIG booster for our house here in Idaho and we have cell service and our neighbors do not. This includes a 3G signal. You might look into a booster if you have not purchased one yet, they are simple to set up and you can even buy directional ant. to bring the signal in even stronger. Hope this helps, we are going to suspend hughes for now and run off our Verizon system

Awesome! I will look into it. Price???
One of the BIG advantage of Hughes has been the fact that I have
unlimited UPLOADS, where with Verizon I am limited to 4G/month. I also
do ride photography (for fun, not money) and it is not unusual for me to
have 100 photos (all 3-4megs) for ONE ride! And I do 3-4 every month
(plus fun stuff in between.)
