RE: [pakgrid] Re: Need of "Industry - University - Researcher COLLABORATION"

It is interesting to note that PEC has formed a University-Industry Committee. The members of this committee should be the ones who have the relevant experience in this area and not bureaucrats who cant do their own jobs properly. We all have to combine  our efforts to-gather to drive Innovation forward. The first and foremost is to form a team of Champions and Mentors to push for the TRIPLE HELIX (Academia, Industry, Government) synergies in order to encourage and sustain this linkage.

Dear Colleagues,

Pakistan Engg Council (PEC) has formal committee called "Academia-Industry Linakge Committee" working on this important issue since realizing its ultimate need for the soci-economic development of the country involving / bridging Academia and industry sectors, as per the direction of BOG.

The committee is headed by Engr Zahid Arif Vice Chair PEC from KPK and presently working as Secretary C&W KPK, including members from each province from academia and CC&I, Have conducted number of meeting in various leading universities and CCIs. The main issue observed was lack of confidence of industry on the competency of academia personals since both are not closely linked each other to know the issues/problems and the possible indigenous solutions by academia. They need to bridge through seminars, workshops, where they can identify problems and seek solutions/competency from academia. Confidence building is a basic issue at this time to start with. As per international practices, one can easily go through number of industrial and applied nature projects / issues available with Professors and he always seeking a team of PG students willing to work with him as researcher. I did this experience myself in Tokyo Univ. Japan in my Lab. Where every year we have been notified few projects to work under industrial sponsorship.

In the recent past (about 2-3 years back), PEC has worked with KPK Govt (Min of Science & Tech) under the leadership of our Convener and have successfully conducted / launched 2-days AIGR workshop (Academia-Industry and Govt Roundtable Workshop), bringing the three tiers together at one platform, inaugurated by concerned Minister, involving Universities, Chamber/industry, HEC etc. to frame out objectives and work-plan for future as a pilot project in KPK. The same was to be replicated in each province after a short period, However got delayed due to PEC governing body election. I believe the committee will initiate its work again with the support of academia and CCIs and place its recommendation to sensitize this issue with concerned quarters in PEC and Govt for implementation.

This is just to apprise all of you regarding PEC efforts being carried out in the same direction.

Regards

Engr Dr Nasir M Khan

Irfan

I fully agree with you that coordination between Academia and industry is very important and in the best interest of both. We have a formal outreach program as part of which we invite delegations, including students and faculty, from various institutes to our office. During the visit we share with them what we are doing, what we need, interviews with our team, lunch in our cafeteria and a walk through of our data center, 24x7 NOC and other facilities. I will have our team reach out to you if you are the right person to coordinate a visit. If not please connect them to the right person.

I will like to take this opportunity to extend the same invitation to other institutes.

Thanks
Amir Wain

there is lack of Industry-Academia relations in Pakistan, that's true no one cay deny over it but at same time some of Universities like where i am studying Sukkur IBA Computer Science Department doing his best by offering study trip to Industries yearly along with that some Industries like we had a recent visit to different IT Industries at lahore doing their best by providing such informative knowledge about current trends and tactics in IT specially i would like to name few of them like Corvit Networks and GameView Studio. The purpose of sharing this knowledge with you all is to motivate other institutes and industries to do their best by providing such opportunities to students with core Industry-Academia relation
