Assalam o alikum Everyone,

I have been following this post and its really nice to see people sharing their experiences. First of all,

@Mr. Zaheer: In the very first line you said to Mr. Awais that you totally disagree with his idea and later on you were saying that corruption is everywhere and Telecom sector is not an exception. This is exactly the point which Mr. Awais was highlighting that in the companies sometimes you have to go out of the way in order to ask useful information from seniors. If you had a good experience with your seniors, it doesn't mean that everyone is the same. Moreover, you also commented that this would happen in low profile companies. I really don't understand what do you mean by high profile and low profile. Sir, with due respect, I must say that its about the individuals not the company. I really don't know how do you rate Telenor, Ericsson, Huawei, ZTE and Mobilink. According to the people, these operators and vendors are considered as high profile. You can find cheap individuals in these companies as well, I have personally experienced but that's just my
experience so I can say that everyone is like that. Even in PTCL, if you have a chance to go there or if you work over there. There are still a lot of dirty politics in PTCL, although it has been privatised. So, the point is its all about attitude of an individual. You have to understand that this is a problem with us as a nation that if we are given some authorities, we misuse the authority. You can see this trend in all departments.

Coming back to the query of getting job in telecom sector. Mr. Zaheer is absolutely right that there is a big saturation in the telecom operator and vendors side because there are no new projects on which they will hire individuals. Unfortunately, as a telecom engineer we start to believe that these telecom operator career is the best and we should only go in this area of service and maintenance. Unfortunately, due to lack of R and D other opportunity doesn't grow in our society. In my opinion, you should be flexible in choosing a career. I must quote this example that during your bachelors you also studied Electromagnetic theory, Signal and Image Processing, Electronics, Programming and computer architecture. Its not the case that you only study wireless communication, analog and digital communication and data communication. So, just be open to other opportunities in other fields too. Please do not restrict yourself to telecom operators only. There are
a lot of software house and they are doing projects of different clients from abroad. In my opinion, they are working more on the latest and state of the art technologies. So, you should also try to apply for development related jobs. Some companies are developing products for future telecommunication technologies. So, in my opinion they have better future prospects. Moreover, this area is not so much saturated as developers are needed in every society and you can easily move forward by just developing your skills everyday. From my company, there are a lot of people who went abroad for employment because of their experience and expertise in one of the future technology "LTE" development. So, you should open to any opportunity which will come in your way. The life always give you chances but these chances can be given in different areas. So, just take the opportunity and you will feel after sometimes that it was the best for you. Don't loose hope and
never feel yourself down. You have the qualification and for sure you will be benefited from this. This won't go waste. InshAllah you will get a job.

Regards
Abdul Hafeez

Dear Awais Khawaja,
I don't know what type of engineers you have worked with and what type of company worked for but I totally disagree with your point of view. Might be the organization where u have worked has such environment  that where engineers are behaving like police hawaldar or patwari. But I think you have worked with low profile people or low profile company or there is some problem with your capabilities.
My experience in telecom sector is totally different , I started from zero , I have learnt from seniors and also given whatever I could give to my Juniors.
There are corrupt people in every department and every area in Pakistan , so telecom is not the exception, Telecom engineers doesn't live on an other Ireland .
Simple reason for limited Job opportunities is economic and security situation in Pakistan. There are no new projects like 3G, 4G so there are limited opportunities. About 8,9 years back telecom sector was the best sector and there was no unemployment just becoz of growing telecom networks.
My advise is that just enhance your skills and focus more on your job rather then blaming others.

Best Regards
Zaheer

You should work as internee in subcon. And wheneva you see any opportunity get yourself in. But for getting in any subcon you will have to prove your worth. No one would teach you there. You'll just have to follow engineers. Even, for learning something, you may have to buy cigarette/ cold drink/ tea for greedy engineers.

Assalam-o-Alikum ,

I am following that post from the start and i think it is a better Platform for sharing the issues which fresh graduates are facing currently and in parallel to that the seniors guidance to them . I am agree what Mr. Hafeez said that why are you " limiting your self ". In that context i just want to add something, I have few questions to fresh graduates ..

What is a Telecom engineer ???

Is that mean a telecom engineer is limited to "Cellular communication"  only if he successfully passed and got a degree he will only get job in " Telenor, Warid, Zong, ZTE" etc ....   If this is rite then where you guys place

1. Satellite Communication

2. Radar Communication

3. Fiber Optic Communication

4. Radio Link Communication ( Which are used by normally by the banks)

I just want to say to new graduates don't be hopeless if you are getting any kind of jobs in the said fields you will still called " Telecom Engineer".  Every telecom engineer studied "DATA COMM" by BEHROZ during their engineering if you are good in that then there is another field waiting for you " Networking" . You all have good concepts as compare to a local CCNA, regarding network basics, network layers and so on .... So by doing a simple ccna course you will get a good start and afterwards by doing CCNP you will get a good job in the market this field never ends it will continue Insha Allah.....

So Guys be Optimistic, Insha Allah every thing will be fine.

Regards,
Raza Jaffry

>
>
There
are a lot of software house and they are doing projects of different clients from abroad.
