HPC Specialist

NYU's Information Technology Services (ITS) is looking for a research support specialist for its HPC infrastructure. This position will work as part of a team to provide technical support, training and computational expertise for the development of HPC and data intensive applications to users of the research clusters.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree +3 years experience (or educational equivalent) in Physics, Biology, Chemistry, Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Experience in running scientific applications on large scale computers
  • Experience with optimizing and/or developing applications on UNIX-based systems
  • Very good communication (written and oral) and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts to a non-technical audience

Preferred Skills:
  • M.S. degree (Ph.D. preferred) in Physics, Biology, Chemistry, Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Good understanding of high performance computing architectures
  • Experience in programming with Fortran, C/C++, MPI and OpenMP parallel methods, and GPU computing
  • Experience in Matlab, R, shell scripts, Perl, and/or Python
  • Experience in Hadoop
  • Experience with queuing systems and schedulers
  • Experience in providing support for scientific application development and optimization
  • The ability to pick up and learn general concepts and technologies quickly and independently
Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will work in the Research Services group. (S)he will primarily be responsible for:
  • Working with faculty and researchers to advance their scientific work by aiding their implementation of scientific applications and utilization of the HPC system
  • Developing and teaching beginning and advanced tutorials on topics related to accessing and working effectively on the HPC clusters
  • Installing, testing, and administering applications on HPC systems
  • Generating system usage and utilization data
  • Assisting in the timely resolution of system and user issues
  • Maintaining documentation in a rapidly changing HPC environment
  • Collaborating with Data Services team to continue improving HPC user experience for beginner and experienced patrons
