within in the Department of Computer and Information Science in its PhD
Program "Explorative Analysis and Visualization of Large Information Spaces".
This PhD program (Graduiertenkolleg) is supported and funded by the Deutsche
Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) http://www.dfg.de/en/. It was established and is
staffed by renowned scholars and experts in their field, who blend current
research with traditional and topical knowledge. At this time, the faculty
consists of ten tenured professors, covering a wide range of research areas
under the general theme of the PhD program (Information Visualization and
Visual Analytics, Computer Graphics, Human Computer Interaction, Intelligent
Data Analysis, Network Analysis, Information Retrieval, Database and
Information Systems, Multimedia Signal Processing, Software Analysis and
Verification, Visual Computing, Security/Privacy in Networks and Distributed
Systems).
The current position is avialable in the area of Database Systems (Prof. Marc
H. Scholl). Applicants must have a Master degree in Computer Science or a
closely related field, with very good grades. They are expected to have good
knowledge of databases (preferably XML/NoSQL databases), data warehousing,
and/or distributed systems, as well as strong implementation skills. Good
communication skills in English, oral as well as written, are essential;
knowledge of the German language is not required.
