Dear Fouad Bajwa,

As you may remember, the ISOC Pakistan Chapter was recently put into rejuvenation and this means it is now closed. We sent out a survey to all ISOC members in Pakistan to help us determine the next steps for the Internet Society in Pakistan. The results of the study suggest that establishing territory and/or regional based Chapters is strongly preferred. We wanted to share with you the high level results of the study.

* 88.1% of those who replied to the survey said they would be interested in joining a state or territory based Chapter;
* 89.6% of those who replied to the survey said they would be interested to participate in a face to face meeting in the province or territory in which they live.

INFORMATION ABOUT CREATING TERRITORY or STATE BASED CHAPTERS

The process to create a Chapter is one that is driven by a group of collaborating ISOC members, not by ISOC HQ. There must be at least 25 interested ISOC members in order to form a Chapter. An application form must be completed: http://www.isoc.org/isoc/chapters/application/appli.shtml and submitted to ISOC. Other important documents to consult are are:

* Frequently asked questions are available at : http://www.isoc.org/isoc/chapters/faq/
* Chapter Guide: http://wiki.chapters.isoc.org/tiki-download_file.php?fileId=155 and
* Chapter Handbook: http://www.isoc.org/isoc/chapters/guidelines/docs/chapterhandbook_2010.pdf.

NEXT STEPS

As a next step we have created a mailing list. The purpose of the mailing list is to provide a forum for people to discuss the creation of a territory or state based chapters. The name of the list is

isoc-in-pk@elists.isoc.org. Other lists can also be created on request. eg. state or territory based.

All those people who replied to the survey and who were willing to help organise a face to face meeting in their territory will be subscribed to the list. The first posting to this list will be from ISOC and will be the contact information of those who agreed to share their contact details with others, along with details of the help they offered. ISOC HQ is available to help answer any questions you have about the creation of state or territory based Chapters.

Please do not hesitate to encourage others interested to join in conversations about the creation of state or territory based Chapters.   They can subscribe to the list at:

   https://elists.isoc.org/mailman/listinfo/isoc-in-pk

Through your efforts, we look forward to the creation of some new Chapters in Pakistan to help advance ISOC's mission in Pakistan. Please do not hesitate to contact me at <chapter-application@isoc.org> if you have questions.

Thank you for your support of the Internet Society,

Rajnesh Singh, Director Regional Bureau, Asia and

Anne Lord, Director of Chapters
