Assalamo Alaikum,
May this email find you best in health and Imaan.
When i initiated my phd process with NISLab (Norway Information Security Lab) i followed the same procedure. what i understood is that Norway has two modes of PHD 1) Based on project funded 2) Self Funded.
I opt for self funded phd where I donot need to stay in Norway . But the main obstacle is to Write your own PHD proposal , why it is hard ? the reason is that PHD Proposal is far beyond the MS thesis proposal and proposing a PHD topic need deep insight and vaste research experience in the relevant field.
My Teacher in Norway told me that there are two tracks for PHD
1) Prof has a porject fund and they enrol students in it , in this, Student get the foundation and direction to navigate with.
2) Student if he is too brilliant write a PHD proposal him/herself and present to group of relevant Prof. If they like the idea he will be enrolled.
Self funded phd mentioned above is on 2nd Track and like i mentioned it is bit hard but not impossible.
Note: A small suggestion if you are working in industry but want to earn PHD , what i learned from my teachers is that for smooth takeoff start publishing research papers (conference) so that you can smoothly come on research Track.

Dear Ali/Walaikum Salam,
Before you start this kind of PhD please make sure HEC will recognize it or not as HEC makes sure whether the student was physically present in the university during his/her study. To verify it I think HEC considers the exit and entry stamps on your passport if the university is abroad.

Assalm u Alakum
Hope that you will find my email in the best of your health
When i went through some blogs related to 'online PhD programs', I came across a term 'PhD by Publication' which allow you to submit a thesis that contains previously published articles of research by you in your respective field. This sound to me something very near to 'Online PhD Program' where i can continue my current job as well as conduct research and then later on publish all my research work as thesis which can lead to doctorate degree. What i would like to know in this regard:
1. Where can i find list of universities offering 'PhD by Publication' (unfortunately it is not advertised much) ?2. Are there any organizations providing such facility where you can work and can submit your published work later on as thesis for PhD ?
RegardsAli Raza
