One Day Workshop on Network Simulator 2 (NS2)

Network Simulator 2 (Ns2) is an open-source event-driven simulator designed specifically for research in computer communication networks. This is the most widely used simulator used by engineers and researchers in academia and industry for simulation of wired and wireless networks. Network Simulator 2 (ns2) Training course is laboratory oriented, in which hands on training will be given. The course covers fundamentals of system modelling, understanding of ns-2, installation of ns-2, writing scripts, simulation and patching. Main focus is on students become capable enough to write their own simulation model test them and draw conclusions

System modelling basics
Ns-2 introduction
Ns-2 architecture
Ns-2 components
Ns-2 installation
Installation of supporting software
Pre-requisite (some Linux commands understanding)
Starting and handling ns-2
Exploring example scripts
TCL basics
OTCL programming
Running wired and wireless simulations
Learning about trace file (wired and wireless trace format (especially new trace format)
Learning about awk and perl, grep, egrep
Plotting graphs with gnuplot
Case study I (wired network)
Case study II (wireless network)

Labs (Hands on work)

Lab work is based on Linux desktop (enough hands on will provided if you are not familiar with Linux)
Simulation using ns-2 simulator
Perl/awk for trace files analysis
gnuplot for graph plotting
Extensive laboratory training
