Microsoft Research (Redmond), after internal review, has accepted a proposal
for award of a research grant for development of SoftUPS, submitted by Dr.
Affan Syed, NU-FAST, Islamabad. The research would start from 01 July 2013.
The SoftUPS solution builds upon a recent technology developed by MSR called
HomeOS, intended to provide an OS like abstraction for smart Homes. The
solution aims to build a smart-home application that replaces current UPS
based solutions to load-shedding, with a more ICT-inspired, greener,
lower-cost, and more efficient solution; hence the name "SoftUPS".
ICT R&D Fund has earlier provided support to Dr. Affan and his team for
research projects that greatly helped the Researcher to build capacity and
qualify for such a prestigious grant.
This shows that there's no dearth of talent in Pakistan. Only people need to
take control of their destiny in their own hands and start building
themselves besides building the solid foundations of an honourable and
prosperous Pakistan. That's only possible through excelling in knowledge,
sheer hard work and honesty.
Dr. Affan and his team at NU-FAST deserve a lot of applause.
Kind regards....Wahaj
