Recently, European Commission held the history's largest funding competition for Future and Emerging Technologies (http://cordis.europa.eu/fp7/ict/programme/fet/flagship/home_en.html). There were 6 finalists for this multi-billion competition including project on creating predictive models of world which could predict unlikely events like Tsunami or even the 2008 financial crunch and also a project to create 'Robot companions'.

Finally, the two winners were announced today which were the projects on Graphene and Human Brain Project.

There are much criticism to award this much money to only two projects since it is argued that large sums will go into bureaucratic and so called travel pockets since each of the project would have dozens of collaborating international sites. Anyhow it is exciting!
Best Regards,
