What is ironic is we are being educated by foreigners under the Connect and World Bank program to go into community outreach. This should have come from within us.

Subject: Volunteer teaching
Excellent idea given by Dr. Asif. Universities can deliver knowledge. What is missing is consumer's input to define the "prodcut", consumer's willingness to accept the "product" and a number of volunteer organisations that are willing to take the challenge of cordination of the whole eco system. Broadly speaking, there are two levels at which universities can contribute, continued professional education and remedial courses for under previliged students. For the first category, continued professional education, industry needs to give its input and guarentee participation by its members. In the 2nd case, ngos have to come forward and make sure that students will show up. I think this effort to create an eco system for volunteer teaching for under previliged students can be a key to get youth vote in 2018 by political parties. This spirit of volunteer work is what is needed to build character at national scale and move towards "Naya Pakistan", "Roshan Pakistan", "Jinnah's Pakistan", whatever your favorite slogan is.

Why does not the local Universities give something back to the local community? Why does not NUST and other large institutions offer instructional courses to local under privileged?Faculty is pretty much asked to come in during the summer why not go a step further and ask them to teach some instructional courses or hands on training for say two weeks? And this has to be for free. Why ? We the privileged (comparatively speaking) are supported by HEC? Why not give something back to the (ordinary citizen) tax payers.

Well perhaps they need to shortlist and by restricting it to the 70% plus may be fine in this case.
However, as a whole, we certainly do need to get away from this notion of A-toppers centered programs/focus.
Many of them are not that bright to put it plainly though some may be so.

What is the logic behind 70% minimum marks required to attend the class? Who says creativity starts from >= 70% of marks or hidden talent exist only in this select group?
