Research Scientist:"Big Data" Distributed Data-intensive Systems Architecture
Technical professionals are defined by what they create. Samsung has the risk taking corporate culture, strategic R&D investments and global know-how to imagine, develop and market products that lead the industry. Samsung is the world's largest manufacturer of memory chips such as DRAM and NAND (FLASH). Samsung R&D's new research group, working on Intelligent Storage Architecture is currently recruiting world-class scientists, who can inspire the world and create a better future.
Your responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
· Publish/prototype/patent innovative software architectures (through hardware-software co-research) that can be used in future data centers and personal computing environments
· Publish/prototype/patent distributed programming models that can be use along with existing open source software to take advantage of new devices including but not limited to non-volatile memory and low-power processors.
The qualified candidate MUST possess the following qualifications/skills:
- Ph.D. or equivalent research experience in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering
- Academic/research experience and knowledge to serve as the "go-to" subject-matter expert in one or more focus areas of the group including but not limited to: Distributed Systems, "Big-data" programming models/paradigms used in open source systems, I/O models for high-performance computing, compiler-hardware interactions and non-volatile memory systems for storage appliances.
- Ability to participate actively in group discussions and clearly articulate your technical understanding of your area of expertise.
- Ability to perform independent and collaborative research. Good communication skills to collaborate with academic partners and other research teams distributed around the world
- Publications that demonstrate your research and writing skills
- Stimulate creation of ideas in the team and to constructively encourage or criticize each other's ideas.
Apart from the essential qualification/skills listed above, we prefer to have a colleague/partner-in-research with one or more optional qualifications such as:
- Ability to rapidly prototype software using languages such as java, C, C++
- Experience in measurement or simulation of end-to-end data storage performance all the way from storage medium to applications.
- Experience or participation in any major open source "big data" projects
- Knowledge of networking topologies and technologies.
- Knowledge of Machine learning or other AI techniques
- Knowledge of sub domains of systems research including computer architecture, distributed systems, operating systems, file systems, system performance modeling, and databases
- Good sense of humor does not hurt your ability to perform this job.
