Re: [pakgrid] Data Centers / Render Farm Business in Pakistan

Dear Ali Akhtar,
AoA,

A render farm is being under development at SEECS-NUST for its data center. However, the prime goals of the project are deployment and load-balancing issues. Once dynamic load-balancing is achieved, the next step would be the consideration of electric power economy. There have been many studies related to energy efficiency of data centers that you may find in various publications. A report revealed recently said that 40% of the U.S. gov data centers are being closed; among other things to save electricity.

Subject: [pakgrid] Data Centers / Render Farm Business in Pakistan

Asslam-o-Allykum All,

I just need some info regarding Data Centers  / Render Farms business in Pakistan.

Suppose one has in-house power production facility which can provide power for small scale data center. Power is cheaper than what you would normally get from Wapda. ( At the moment, my understanding is that energy is the most expensive resource required for data centers) Is it possible to come up with some sort of business model around it? I am talking about something like providing cloud computing services / render farms et c etc. Are there any market studies / research reports out there that discuss the economies of data centers?. Even if an investor is ready to put up the initial infrastructure cost, are there enough customers available to make it a sustainable business?

Thanks and Regards
