Knowledge Transfer Partnership Associate - Mechanical/CAE Engineer

WMG and Simpact Engineering Ltd

£24,600 pa

Fixed Term Contract for 6 months (to commence by 12 June 2012)

WMG and Simpact Engineering Ltd require an enthusiastic, highly self-motivated engineering graduate to deliver a 6 month industrially-focused project. You will have a degree (or
equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline (2:1 or above), with experience in the area of computer aided design and engineering (CAD/CAE) to gain industrial development
experience. This post is supported by TSB funding, under the Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) scheme and is offered in conjunction with the University of Warwick.

You will apply and embed a methodology that enables the design optimisation of components manufactured from naturally derived materials using simulation tools. You will leverage the
technical expertise within WMG and Simpact to formalise the approach for characterising naturally derived sustainable materials, providing reliable input data for robust design tools.
You will develop specialist knowledge within this growing field of predictive design engineering for lightweight sustainable materials.

You will ideally have an understanding of the issues to be overcome when designing and manufacturing components using alternative materials such as sustainable composites. You will need
to be a good, patient communicator with excellent interpersonal and analytical skills.

Research Technician or Senior Research Technician

School of Life Sciences

£19,972 - £23,121 per annum
£23,811 - £26,779 per annum

Fixed term contract for up to 3 years

You will support research on the biology of hepatitis C virus.  The research
involves a combination of molecular and cell biology, mammalian cell culture and
virus cultivation in a level 3 containment laboratory.  You will support
post-doctoral fellows in an active research group with long-term funding from
the MRC and BBSRC.

You will have A-levels or equivalent in science subjects (grade 4) or a good
honours degree or equivalent in a relevant biological science subject (grade 5)
as well as experience of working in a research laboratory, ideally with
experience of working in a containment level 3 laboratory.  You will also have
experience of working with molecular biological methods and experience of
working with mammalian cell culture, human pathogenic viruses, RNAi or confocal
microscopy is desirable.
