The Cluster of Excellence 'Center for Advancing Electronics Dresden' (cfAED) invites applications for PhD student positions (TV-L) from highly motivated individuals holding a master's degree or a university diploma of a relevant subject area (Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Material Sciences, Physics, Chemistry, Biology Mathematics, or related). The positions are limited until October 31st 2017. The period of employment depends on topic and area and is governed by the Fixed Term Research Contracts Act (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz - WissZeitVG). All PhD students will become members of a designated research path and part of the cfAED research program. You will undertake leading edge research and contribute to the Cluster with your specialist expertise in your field. The list of topics, including supervising professors, terms and conditions and starting dates are published on the cfAED website www.cfaed.org from 01 Oct 2012 until 19 Oct 2012. IMPORTANT: Please clearly indicate on your application your preferred investigator (group) and PhD topic from the website's list. You may choose up to two topics from the list. All positions will be funded by the Cluster of Excellence cfAED, located in Dresden, Germany. Positions and Requirements: As a doctoral student of cfAED you will work within and be fully integrated into the cluster. Therefore, an interdisciplinary work and research approach are indispensible. We aim at attracting the best talents in the respective research fields and expect the following: a very good Master's degree (or equivalent) in a relevant subject area (candidates about to earn their degree are also welcome to apply – the anticipated degree should be completed within the next 6 months); outstanding academic performance in previous studies; some research experience; high motivation and interest to join one of the most ambitious interdisciplinary research clusters; an integrative and cooperative personality with excellent communication skills; fluent in English – written and oral (Cluster language is English – knowledge of German is not required but we will encourage the applicants to take language courses).
