Subject: "German Pakistani Research Cooperations" - Call for applications

Dear alumna / dear alumus of DAAD or HEC,

During the last three years, a total of 18 joint Pakistani-German research projects have been established under the roof of the funding scheme "German-Pakistani Research Cooperations" financed by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).  With the help of this programme, German and Pakistani researchers - the latter mostly former scholarship awardees of HEC or DAAD - jointly develop robots, analyse climate change, explore methods to reduce dam siltation and resarch on social change in Pakistan - just to name some examples.

The DAAD has now published a new announcement of this funding programme and invites applications until August 31.

If you are already cooperating with a German university, or if you have plans to start a joint research project with a German partner, we suggest that you inform him/her about this funding programme, which is designed exclusively to
support joint projects of German and Pakistani universities.

In case you assume the task of drafting the project proposal, I should like to share the following suggestions with you:

- The purpose of the project has to be well defined.
- Your proposal should come with detailed and focused objectives.
- Apart from an overall goal, milestones should be defined so that the progress can be easily evaluated at a later state.
- Objectives and milestones have to be realistic. Do not be too optimistic, instead reflect on possible challenges and how they could be met.
- The methodology should be explained in detail.
- Please make sure, the proposal is in line with the standards of academic writing. (Be precise and avoid all vague and general phrases. Give facts, figures and references. Consider the latest publications. Never ever plagiarize.) Keep in mind that the proposal will be reviewed by experts from the respective field.

Apart from the proposed project as such, the framework matters:

- The project should be in line with the research foci of both partners. Earlier joint publications are an asset, but at least you should prove you expertise and that of your partner in the given field (publications).
- It is important to get junior scientists/scholars involved such as MPhil or Phd students - from both sides if possible.
- The project should be linked to the ongoing research and teaching at the Pakistan university/institute (not a must, but an asset).
- Mention equipment and consumables. What is available at your university? In which condition? What has do be procured for the project?

Please find the German versíon of the announcement as well as the contact information for the German professors/universities and a guideline for budget calculation at:

Do not hesitate to contact me again if you need more information.
