[pakgrid] Final Call for Applications: 2013 IIASA YSSP [Deadline Jan 14th]

 

Each summer, the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA), located in Schloss Laxenburg near Vienna, Austria (http://www.iiasa.ac.at/ ) hosts a select group of graduate students from around the world in its Young Scientists Summer Program (YSSP). These students work closely with an IIASA senior scientist mentor on a project proposed by the student, related to his or her graduate research, with the goal of a publishable paper. 

IIASA is funded and governed by its 40+ National Member Organizations (NMOs) around the globe. In Pakistan, IIASA's NMO is the Pakistan Academy of Sciences and the NMO secretariat has recently moved to LUMS. The collaboration is being led by the Vice Chancellor LUMS, Dr. Adil Najam (Member, IIASA council) and Dr. Abubakr Muhammad (Secretary NMO). http://lums.edu.pk/iiasa-nmo/ 

There are three global problem areas (Energy & Climate Change, Food & Water, Poverty & Equity) and nine programs, the details of which are available at the IIASA Website:  http://www.iiasa.ac.at/yssp

The deadline for the application is 14th January 2013. The program starts on 1st June 2013 and lasts till 31st August 2013. All applications should be submitted online at: http://www.iiasa.ac.at/web/home/education/yssp/Apply/Conditions-and-Eligibility.en.html

Applicant requirements:
1.      Advanced graduate student;
2.      Applicant field is compatible with ongoing research at IIASA;
3.      Applicant  research and career would benefit from working alongside 50 or so young scientists as well as senior scientists from around the world;
4.      Applicant would like to explore the policy implications of the proposed work.

 
Selected applicants from Pakistan will be funded by IIASA's National Member Organizations which includes air ticket, boarding and living expenses. Graduate students from all recognized Pakistani universities are eligible for this program.
