Subject: [pakgrid] PEC Elections
Dear all,
Through this email, I would like to urge my friends and colleagues on the pak-grid mailing group to vote in the upcoming PEC elections. Physical balloting for the PEC elections will be held on Sunday, 18 December 2011 in all major cities of Pakistan. (For details, please visit http://pec.org.pk/Elections2011.aspx.)
The upcoming PEC elections give us an opportunity to select the right set of people who can bring fresh ideas and energy to PEC. This year we have some excellent candidates to choose from. In particular, for the post of Vice Chairman, Punjab, I would like to endorse Wahaj us Siraj, CEO, Nayatel/Micronet Broadband. Wahaj is the co-founder of Nayatel, Pakistan's first fiber to the home (FTTH) company, which was ranked as second fastest growing company in Pakistan by Allworld Network, co-founded by Professor Michael Porter of Harvard University.
For this forum, it is perhaps more important to highlight Wahaj's role in saving the Pakistan National ICT R&D Fund. Many of you will recall that in May 2010 the Federal Minister for IT fired six independent Directors from the Board of ICT R&D Fund. Wahaj, with support of other Board members. took a proactive stance and filed a petition in the Islamabad High Court, which after few months of legal battle, reinstated all six Directors removed by the Minister. Thanks to these efforts, the ICT R&D Fund is now back on track after remaining dormant for more than a year.
This year we also have many excellent nominees from the academia. I would strongly urge you to support them as well. This is a national cause and we should play our part in it.
