Yes, most of the bluetooth gps navigators works the same way. It will be very convenient if you learn the basics of android os, its easy and you'll learn to program it quickly. Ill recommend making an application in android to control a cell phone's bluetooth for either reception or transmission (quite simple), and use a bluetooth module interfaced with your appliances or other circuitry.
