trying to figure out which is the best solution

I expect I will be boondocking most days and in remote areas, does anyone have experience with Satellite Internet, or suggestions on what Interent might work, any suggests on equipment/etc

Most sites have limited information that does not really tell me much

"Required Equipment:
For satellite internet a dish and modem are needed. The modems have commonly used connectors such as Ethernet or Universal serial bus. Some also have an integrated Blue tooth transceiver and double as a satellite phone. "

Jim,

Satellite Internet is about the only choice if you are away from a cell
site. There is lots of information about what is needed and how much it will
cost on our web site, in the Satellite Systems menu:
http://www.MobileInternetSatellite.com

Just email me with any questions you have,

Barb

Satellite internet for RVers is a technology in serious decline, but it still may be appropriate for you depending on where you go.

The decline is due to two things: Widespread availability of 3G/4G cellular service, and the adoption of WiFi by large numbers of RV parks.

Up until 3 years ago, anyone who said, as many of us did, "I need internet on the road" was a prime candidate for satellite. Today, when I am asked, I suggest that they start with cellular (aircard, MiFi, or tethered cell phone) and see how it works for them where they go. If it is not up to the job that is the time to add satellite to the mix.

For satellite you have two fundamental choices in hardware: Automatic rooftop antenna, and manual tripod-mount. There are pros and cons with each. There are also pitfalls to be aware of, such as the type of service. In the past, many of those who wanted to use a tripod typically called up Hughes and had a dish installed on a fixed home, then simply moved that service to a tripod dish. Today if you did that you would get a type of service (spot-beamed) installed that couldn't be moved, so you have to approach the process carefully. Hughes is not the only player, but it is by far the dominant player in the RV market. Barb Nolley, who has already responded, also handles Starband.

If you have not already explored it, I would recommend that you look through my site http://www.datastormusers.com - all of the information there is free, and I do not sell anything related to satellite internet.
