ICT Solutions to manage natural calamities facing the nation
Currently the nation is faced with multiple calamities; some natural and others man-made.
We have flood waters rising hence devastating large parts of the country (especially Sindh) including damage to crops, animals and humans or whatever come in its way.
Also a small insect, namely Aedes Aegypti mosquito, carrier of dengue fever is wreaking havoc with lives of people mostly in Punjab province at this time and could unfortunately turn into a bigger disaster if it spreads to other provinces and regions also.
It would be prudent to find ways to facilitate the agencies and entities trying to deal with these disasters in smarter ways using mapping and GIS-based technology (for need assessment) to find the path of flood waters and to depict this massive issue pictorially. It could also help in to rescue hundreds and thousands of individuals stuck in various locations.
Also, the outbreak and spread of dengue could be modeled using standard epidemic-specific modeling techniques so that the spread could be stopped by timely interventions lest it takes over the whole country.
Industry, academia, NGOs, and R&D institutions specially those already working in this area and trying to mitigate the effects are encouraged to apply for funding to develop mapping and modeling software or enhance the functionality, use, and outreach of pre-existing solutions to assist in saving human lives.
Nation ICT R&D Fund is here to help out by providing funding on a fast track basis for projects (using standard technical R&D project application forms available on our website), targeted towards the innovative use of ICTs and development of ICT solutions and systems to combat this menace.
