I agree with your suggestion. Online courses are an easy way for course instructors to update themselves.
On a slightly unrelated note, I believe we are experiencing a unique opportunity now when MOOCs are still in the their infancy, and the debate seems to be on how (not if) to effectively monetize them. We should make the most of this period while it lasts. On Thu, Jan 31, 2013 at 8:03 PM, Arjumand Younus <arjumand_younus@yahoo.com> wrote:
Asalam alaikum all,There has been much hype around online education initiatives such as Coursera, Udacity and EdX and many emails regarding these platforms were sent on this mailing list too. I was recently invited by ACM Student Magazine to share my thoughts for their special issue on Information and Communication Technologies for Development (ICTD): they wanted my opinion as to how online education initiatives can help the developing world and wished to know something from a Pakistani perspective. As there was quite some discussion around the topic of online education and how we can benefit from them on this group so I would like to share my perspective with all of you.If you have ACM access you can find the article here:Else, I have uploaded for those without ACM access:Thoughts are welcome.- Arjumand.Overseas Faculty and Visiting Research Fellow,
