[pakgrid] Re: Reverse Metering + Solar Panels

I think another member made a similar point-

The Pakistani grid is unstable. Voltage and frequency fluctuates a lot.

The inverters are designed to work off a relatively constant reference voltage from the grid.

Inverter disconnects when grid voltage or frequency are outside
normal range. Reconnection happens after the normal range is
restored, plus a delay (nominal 5 minutes)

Also, AC current injected into grid must have THD < 5%. Inverter must shut down (typically in less than 2 seconds) under islanding conditions.

These may be achievable at the IPP level, if the inverters are also used to manage the grid - but would be difficult for small distributed system as in grid connected homes.

Even the US is looking to improve its grid (Smart grid) to enable the adopted of widespread distributed generation.

Pakistan needs to take the quality of its grid into account when planning distributed generation (and reverse metering).

Excess energy, in the day, at end user premisis may be accepted by respective grid. When end user gets advantage of energy units this will make the project feasible. End user will try to install more and more solar panel at its premsis and end user will try to maintain it in a good state to get advantage of free energy.
