Hi all,
being a power system engineer, i say the proposal is implementable however great planning is required for Power system stability.
At present, we don't have sophisticated grid system to handle on/off (intermittent and uncertain) solar energy production.
A good alternative solution could be:
Installing solar panel at district level or city level. Analogy can be made to PETROL PUMP..commonly known as Distributed generation that can also feedback to the GRID as well.
Solar panel could easily be mounted at rooftop of all the commercial buildings to meet their some need such as lighting or some other load. (not for FEED BACK) .
However, respected fellows, the Electricity Market mechanism followed in our country is monopolistic thus barring the free competition.
First n foremost is the Market Institutional changes ,giving way to a free market where every one can PRODUCE electricity.
At the moment, we have around 14 IPPs active, they would not allow other PLAYER to share their PROFIT..
hope that you get the clear picture now..

P.S: Load shedding is not a problem at all. It can be solved in a day. The intention is not there..
The electricity is always on EID, sehri, Cricket Match, Electoral..
how on earth then they produce energy on these festivals..certainly someone making us fool....

Subject: [pakgrid] Reverse Metering + Solar Panels
While informal chat, Dr. Anjum Iqbal sahib gave a really good idea regarding energy solution as follows:
The solar panel system can be more useful, if we use 'Reverse Metering' system:
- Govt. may help people buying solar panels on soft loans.
- Govt. may recommend/approve solar system specifications to be used.
- Distribution Companies can launch 'Reverse Metering' system. Excess energy, in the day, at end user premisis may be accepted by respective grid. When end user gets advantage of energy units this will make the project feasible. End user will try to install more and more solar panel at its premsis and end user will try to maintain it in a good state to get advantage of free energy.
- Generation Companies may generate more energy in the night and less in the day. Because more solar energy is available in the day.
- End user will not need a big battery bank for storage for night use.
Is this workable? What are your comments?
