Need some help. Spent a couple hours yesterday on the phone with tech support at RTC great folks. I did not get online. My system could not find my sat, 89w locked on once for a second or so. I was told I might have a bad board?? Then we tried 99w no luck. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Software upgrade, sat charts? Thanks,

A few years back I thought I would go nuts trying to get my system back on
line. I had the round metal Raven dish at the time. The first issue was SS
in that it wouldn't get much above 65 in the green. A friend had a
fiberglass mount and we swapped until we found that the dish was warped and
would not pull in good SS. I then replaced my dish with the .73 fiberglass
and all went well until next year and then I had a problem with xmt light.
After swapping cable, dishes, modems etc. and not finding the problem I
finally tried the unlikely power supply, Sure enough the system came on line
right away.

I don't like to troubleshoot by module swapping but sometimes it really
makes sense in exasperating situations. See if you can find someone with a
set up and get theirs running. Then swap items one at a time including the
cables. They are cheap parts when you look at the overall value of having
them available if needed. Its pretty easy swapping once you have their
system aimed. You have a good point of reference for settings that work for
your account or theirs.

As a result of that experience I carry a spare power supply and modem and
cables. I protect the dish when it is packed for travel to make sure I don't
place it face down such that it can develop a shape of its own.

89 is a tough one for a Datastorm controller. I scanned it (and most of the other Hughes satellites) a few days ago and built a Hughes-only satellite table that you might want to try. It is in the Reference forum at DatastormUsers.

If you are near Tucson, we have all kinds of spare parts, including modems, and could swap til it's fixed.

Or, if you figure out what it is, let us know.

Another thing to consider with the modem: if all else fails, you can "rf" the modem ... the danger here is that of "bricking" the modem and it is then unuseable. If you decide to do this, email me for details on what to do and I'll send them.

Take care,

Barb

Most of the answers aren't noticing that it probably isn't a modem problem - "My system could not find my sat, 89w locked on once for a second or so" implies an automatic dish with the problem being failure to find the satellite. The modem can be a factor in that, but in most cases a dish should find the satellite without needing the modem.

Thanks so much for all the suggestions. I will not be back to the RV site until Friday to try some of the suggestions. We are also going to be heading west when we leave this area. Going to our property in Casa Grande. So a stop along the way could be in order.

Thanks again for all of the suggestions.

Safe Travels!
Von
