The Informatics and Telematics Institute (ITI) of the Centre for Research and Technology Hellas (CERTH), invites applications for one (1) research assistant in the field of extraction and semantic analysis of user behaviour and personalized recommendation of content. The position is part of a research project on the computationally-efficient analysis and recommendation of audio-visual content, as well as the linking of parts of the content with other relevant content items, for the purpose of interweaving TV and Web content into a single integrated experience. 

CERTH-ITI is located in Thessaloniki, Greece (http://www.iti.gr/iti/contact.html), about 10 km east of the city centre. ITI is one of the leading Institutions of Greece in the fields of Informatics, Telematics and Telecommunications, with long experience in numerous European and national R&D projects. ITI has participated in more than 50 research projects funded by the European Commission (IST FP5-FP6-FP7) and more than 85 research projects funded by Greek National Research Programmes and consulting cubcontracts with the private sector.

The ideal candidate should have:
* A Bachelors or Masters (MSc) degree in Computer Science
* Familiarity with personalized information management and recommendation.
* Familiarity with Semantic Web technologies.
* Programming experience in Java.
* Proficiency in both written and spoken English.

Previous experience in semantic applications including, but not limited to, user profiling, ontology/rule learning, user behaviour pattern detection and recommender systems will be considered a plus. Candidates are expected to develop new research ideas and to interact with the multidisciplinary research environment of the host research team.

The expected starting date for the positions is in January 2012. Competitive salaries will be offered depending on the qualifications and experience of the applicants. The contract duration will be initially for one year, with the potential for extension to two more years (three in total).
