Research Fellow in Spatial Database Research

The Data and Knowledge Engineering (DKE) research group at The University of Queensland is a leading database and information systems research group in Australia, with six academic staff and over 30 research staff and PhD students. DKE has a new opening for a Research Fellow position funded by the Australian Research Council (ARC) grants, to work on advanced data management and applications with a focus on spatiotemporal databases and trajectory data processing. This project is supervised by Prof Xiaofang Zhou, and will require collaboration with several leading research groups in Australia and internationally. The role of the appointee is to conduct independent research which will lead to high quality publications and demonstrable tools, with opportunities for teaching and research student supervision.
This position is suitable for a motivated and innovative person with a PhD degree (or near completion) in Computer Science or related fields, strong background in database research, an outstanding publication record and good system development skills. Applicants should have previous research experience in advanced databases (spatial databases in particular), data mining, data quality management, algorithm design and evaluation, as well as research prototyping. Experiences in addressing computationally complex problems and excellent communication skills are essential.
This is a full-time, fixed-term appointment for three years at Research Officer (Academic Level A) or Senior Research Officer/Research Fellow (Academic Level B - equivalent to Lecturer/Assistant Professor).
