[pakgrid] Promissing areas for focus

Below is my take for the benefit of the list members.
The past decade has witnessed a significant shift towards social
networks and crowd-sourcing services exploding in the tech world
starting with myspace, facebook, linkedin, twitter, flickr, amongst
dozens more spread throughout all the regions. Just this week Tumblr was
purchased by Yahoo for approx $1.2 billion - bringing another one-person
tech startup to the next level.

The highly promising areas in the present decade revolve around cloud
computing, Big Data and data analytics along with the continuation of
the crowd-sourcing phenomenon. Of course, with the sale of highly
powerful smart phones running in the hundreds of millions each year,
applications and services for Android, I.O.S. and Windows M would
continue to be in significant demand globally.

Pakistani Engineers/Programmers/Computer Scientists - may they be at the
undergraduate, post graduate or post doctoral level, seriously need to
consider focusing on these subfields in order to have a chance of
developing/creating a meaningful contribution and breaking through the
technology ceiling that Pakistan has been stuck in.

Of course there are other fields, especially on the mobile computing
side that also may have excellent opportunities for the talented - but
my intention here was to highlight some areas that, if given a choice,
the list subscribers may want to consider in relation to their future
careers.

In my rather limited experience of interacting within the technology
sector within North America and Pakistan, I continue to witness a
serious disconnect of Pakistani engineers/technologists with the reality
that exists in the market.

Regards,
Ayaz
