Barb Nolley has been saying for awhile that it was impossible to get a new 7000 account from Hughes because they are switching to someone to act as a VAR.

Today I see that Montana Satellite has only business-level VAR accounts available for the 7000:

http://www.montanasatellite.com/hughesnet/hughesnet_account_request.htm

I don't know if Montana is the VAR, or if someone else is. Anyone know?

Don,

According to RTC, THEY are the only VAR assigned by HughesNet. They offer
one consumer plan and two business plans for the .98 dishes.

It's possible that Montana is reselling RTC plans.

I was told by the HughesNet fulfillment dealer we were working with that
there would be two VARs for KU-band services and that one of the companies
was Canadian. But, then a family emergency took the dealer out-of-town and
he hasn't responded to emails since.

Take care,

Barb

Since there are still at least a couple of other VARs, RTC is clearly mistaken. Mobilsat is a fairly large VAR, for example.

Since Montana has 4 new plans on their site, all business plans, that would appear to leave out RTC as the source also.

The big question is whether there is a new VAR, and why only business plans.

Don,

Yes, I agree ... So, I went back and re-read all the emails and he actually
said "RTC is the only VAR providing Hughes service to mobile customers."

But, he also said they do not service Motosat equipment, so go figure?

I just checked Montana Satellite and it now also shows the consumer plans
(Home, Pro, ProPlus and ProPlus with static IP). And, for the usual monthly
rates!

So, it certainly looks like Montana may be one of those two VARs the
fulfillment dealer mentioned.

I wonder who the local providers are???

Take care,

Barb

I think you were looking at an old page at Montana. You can't request any of the old plans from them. Did you see the page I pointed you to (which is the one where you see what you can actually request)? http://www.montanasatellite.com/hughesnet/hughesnet_account_request.htm

No VAR other than Motosat has ever serviced Motosat equipment, and Motosat is gone in all ways. RTC was "given" all the Motosat accounts by Hughes, so it is likely they have the most that are using Datastorms. Mobilsat would be second, and they most definitely provide Hughes service to mobile customers: http://www.mobilsat.com/HughesNet/

After I sent my last response I saw that Montana had responded to a post I made at DSU: "Hi Guys! We're just reselling VAR accounts for now! ... HN7000 and some HX as well!"

Don,

You are absolutely right ... I was on the old page.

The plans on this page are the exact same plans as offered by RTC, but for
$30 to $60 more per month ... that's with the 18 month contract. RTC is not
offering any month-to-month. Nor are they offering the IA400.

The 100 is for the .74 dish and the others, the .98.

Take care,

Barb
