Student Travel Grants to Attend EDBT/ICDT-2012
NSF Travel Grants for Graduate Students at US-based Institutions
We are pleased to announce NSF Student Travel Grants to encourage
computer science students to participate in EDBT/ICDT 2012. The
EDBT/ICDT 2012 Joint Conference will be held in March 26-30, 2012 in
Berlin, Germany. We encourage in particular the participation of
groups underrepresented in science and engineering, including
underrepresented minorities, women, and persons with disabilities, to
apply for this opportunity. We will give preference to students that
have an active involvement in the conference as well as a perceived
need for support, however, based on the availability of funds we will
also consider all other students from US-based institutions.
EDBT/ICDT series have become one of the top conferences in computer
science, and a leading international forum for presenting and
discussing current research and applications in which the major
emphasis is on both practical as well as theoretical foundations of
data and information management. The scientific program will cover
synergistic themes on database foundations, information system
development, and data-intensive applications to promote new research
collaboration. The EDBT/ICDT 2012 conference promises to have great
scientific quality and broad impact, with world-renowned scientists as
keynote speakers and invited speakers, contributed talks at a highly
competitive acceptance rate, as well as the board participation of the
research community serving on the Program Committee and the organizing
committees for workshops, tutorials and posters. The website
containing information on the technical component of the conferences,
including the call for papers, for workshops, for demonstrations, and
seminars can be found at http://edbticdt2012.dima.tu-berlin.de/.
GRANT DETAILS:
The travel grant will provide up to $1000 to cover reasonable travel
expenses, conference proceedings, meals, etc. Grantees should be
full-time students enrolled at a US-based institution.
EXPECTATIONS:
Grantees agree to attend all sessions at the symposium and provide a
short report after the symposium. Grantees agree to allow ICDT/EDBT to
publish their names and reports on symposium website and in NSF
reports. The winners will be notified by email well before the actual
meeting in March 2011.
SELECTION PROCESS AND ELIGIBILITY:
We will give highest priority to students at US institutions (US
citizens and residents) that belong in groups underrepresented in
science and engineering, including underrepresented minorities, women,
and persons with disabilities, so to encourage their participation in
this technical event.
Among the above, we will then give priority to students that
demonstrate an active involvement in the conference, in particular by
presenting a PhD Workshop paper, a software demonstration, or a
research paper at either ICDT or EDBT, or in any of the associated
workshops. The selection committee will also pro-actively look for
highly ranked student-authored papers or demonstrations as potential
recipients of these travel awards.
We will also take into account the perceived need of support by the
student; so that we leverage these NSF funds to increase the
participation of students that otherwise may not have the means to
attend this international event.
Beyond the above groups and based on the availability of funds, we
will also consider other students at US-based institutions that are
neither US citizens nor US residents. However, such students must be
enrolled as full-time students at a US-based institution in order to
be eligible. Students that do not have any active participation
(publication/demonstration) in the event yet have an interest in
becoming involved in the community to engage in professional
interactions on their work in progress, will be the last group of
students we will consider.
TRAVEL FELLOWSHIP SELECTION COMMITTEE:

Dr. Bernhard Volz, University Bayreuth, Germany. Ph.d. Workshop co-chair.
Prof. Sascha Mueller-Feuerstein, Germany. Ph.d. Workshop co-chair.
