Workshop on Open Source E-Government at UET Lahore on 24th December 2011

Dear Colleague,

Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB) is the Government agency mandated to promote Pakistan's Information Technology (IT) industry. The Open Source Resource Center (OSRC) is a project of the Ministry of IT, executed by PSEB. It aims to promote open source solutions in the country through awareness-raising seminars, training workshops and network migrations.

As part of its new roster of initiatives, the OSRC team in collaboration with Al-Khawarizmi Institute of Computer Science, UET Lahore (KICS-UET) is conducting a work shop on "Open Source e-Government"on the occasion of 5th International Conference on Open Source Systems and Technologies (ICOSST-2011). The objective of this workshop is to convince companies, public/private organizations, institutes and SMEs to migrate to a more cost-effective open source working environment. PSEB has achieved significant cost saving while becoming intellectual property regime compliant by moving to open source.

PSEB will share its own internal experiences faced during the migration process. Further, a case study from CS department UET, Lahore will be presented where all computing resources have been converted to open source. In addition UET exchange server, internet servers, web servers, library management system, exam and registration systems are on open source.

The event is free and will be of two hours in duration and is scheduled during the afternoon session from 2:30 to 4:30pm on December 24, 2011. The interested participants/companies/departments are requested to send the confirmation to undersigned by 23st December 2011.
