[pakgrid] Workshops on Android Application Development @ OSSW2011/ICOSST2011

 

The Al-Khawarizmi Institute of Computer Science (KICS), UET Lahore has the pleasure to announce a series of upcoming OSSW2011 workshops in collaboration with ICOSST2011 on "Android Application Development".

The event will take place on Friday 23rd December 2011 at the Seminar hall, KICS, UET Lahore.

Title: Introduction to Android Application Development  
Presenters: Jamshaid Iqbal Janjua, Sajid Mahmood, KICS-UET, Lahore
Abstract:
Android is a complete operating environment based upon the Linux® kernel. In this workshop, we give an introduction to the Android platform and learn how to code a basic Android application. Android is a layered environment built upon a foundation of the Linux kernel, and it includes rich functions. The UI subsystem includes: Windows/Layouts, Views, Widgets for displaying common elements such as edit boxes, lists, and drop-down lists.
Android Mobile Application Development Workshop is designed to provide essential skills and experience with developing applications on Android mobile platform. This workshop is best suited for Java developers who are seeking a fast track to the Android API and best practices. Throughout the workshop, the participants will learn the basics of Android Platform and also learn to develop a real-life application, which can serve as a basis for their future Android projects. Eclipse and Android SDK are used as the development environment throughout the workshop.

Title: Android Application Development: Advanced Topics
Presenters: Wasif Tanveer, M. Imran Sarwar, KICS-UET, Lahore
Abstract:
Android is a vast platform, more than one lecture can reasonably handle, However, slick applications will use more than just the basics. You will want home screen widgets, or good support for tablets, or tight integration with the Quick Search Box, or to expose APIs from your application to third parties. Once you've grappled the fundamentals of creating a user interface, you can explore some advanced features for creating a more complex application interface. We will be seeing adapter, maps, location services, multimedia and many more things in this 1 hour workshop. So hang on and hang on tight as we will be "Getting Beyond the Basics".

Title: Android Game Development
Presenters:  Wasif Tanveer, KICS-UET, Lahore, Awais Hassan, Hina Khalid, Computer Science Department, UET, Lahore
Abstract:
If you're interested in creating Android games then check out "Android Game Development Workshop". This course on creating Android games will show you how to translate your existing development skills so that you can use them to design a game and publish it as an AIR for Android app. By the end of the course, you will have learned the following game concepts: collision detection, random enemy creation and movement, shooting capabilities, creating multiple levels, and displaying high scores etc.

NOTE: these workshops are also available online on HEC PERN network and video conferencing equipment; anyone who has video conferencing equipment can also view/attend these workshops online as well. The credentials of the event are as following:
