The Al-Khawarizmi Institute of Computer Science (KICS), UET Lahore has the pleasure to announce a series of upcoming OSSW2011 workshops in collaboration with ICOSST2011 on "Cloud Computing and Virtualization". The event will take place on Friday 23rd December 2011 at the Seminar hall, KICS, UET Lahore. The workshop announcement is now available online, where you will find information about the topics of the workshop, URL: http://www.uet.edu.pk/Conferences/icosst2011/home.html?RID=_workshop Find the following abstracts of the available workshops: Title: Introduction to Cloud Computing - The role of Virtualization Presenters: Abdul Qadeer, KICS-UET, Lahore Abstract: 'Cloud Computing' is one of the popular technologies at this time.  It is widely being used by not only the corporate sector but the end consumers also.  This talk explains the technical side of cloud computing that what exactly is it and how is it used in the world.  As each technology has some strengths and weaknesses, cloud computing also has its share of strengths / weaknesses. Understanding these strengths / weaknesses is necessary to evaluate the technology. The term 'Cloud Computing' is a way of computing which encompasses numerous elements.  Covering all of those elements is not possible in one session.  In this talk we will be focusing on one of the cornerstones of cloud computing, called virtualization.  Additionally it will be discussed that how a popular cloud computing provider (e.g. Amazon Web Services) builds and provides cloud services.
