Thanks again for all your tech help. Yes, I was addressing the stimulus credit. After 3.5 hours more with Philip. and U.S. billing about their unapproved taking money from my account- I now have a six month $30.00cr. per month-- not worth all the trouble but ---

WOW... that's heavy!!!
I have never seen that kind of price when I subscribed through Hughes
5 or 6 years ago and even through the two VARs I have used for
service since. Presently I use Data Storm.
I do have my own equipment. Also, a few years back Hughes went to
the HN9000 modem which inhibits using their service across the US
due to spot beam technology. ... not for RVers.
I do recall when I was back with Hughes billing could be dicey for a
mobile customer when they wanted to suspend and reactivate their
service.

Thank you for all the past help. I have followed this group for the last
5 years and much appreciate the help. I now have a problem with billing-
I pay my bill online- Hughes bill says I have $30.00 credit for jan-mar
2012 of $30.00 each month. I pay $39.00 online and within a day they take
out $30.00 more without my approval. I call and they say I signed up for
auto pay and I owed 30.00 so they took it. Philippines service lies!!!
Beware!!!

DataStorm Billing changes

The other day I recieved a notice from DataStorm that they were farming our
their billing to a third party. Do any of you know how this will impact
suspending and starting service with DataStorm.

No one knows anything at this point. MotoSAT sent the notices out without
informing the dealers and they sent it out just before they closed for
business on Friday leaving everyone up in the air as to what this all means.

Bill, I did not know they closed for business. What would their existing
customers
need to do to keep service? Is there any alternatives to DataStorm?

One other point - this not a case of farming out billing. Motosat was a VAR (Value-Added Reseller) for Hughes.
Now that is coming/has come to an end. Hughes has transferred Motosat accounts to a different VAR, Real Time Communications about which we know essentially nothing. I'm not even sure it was Motosat's choice to make this switch.

There are tons of ramifications. One of the biggest is what sort of support RTC has, but also such things as modem vacations, and satellite switching.
Dealers for Motosat get residuals; will they get them for the accounts that transferred? Not all VARs pay residuals, and it is the residuals that allow dealers to offer "free" support.
One of the first things I did was to e-mail the president of RTC to ask him to join and post in the DSU forums. I haven't heard back, but I'm not particularly surprised on a weekend - the website at rtc-vsat.com is not one that you would see from someone who was a heavy internet user checking his e-mail all the time the way a lot of us do.

It sounds complicated and a bit complex to me. I would think in the interest
of true capitalism and cash flow the new company would not want to ignore
any revenue stream even the small ones as long as they don't bear the cost
of support!!
I hope that would mean my measly four months a year use and income to them
for service would still be accommodated. The past couple years a 1 minute
phone call to DS or a simple form fill out on the DataStorm web opened me up
for service. All they had to do was enter the transaction into their system
to allow my service suspended SAN.... that and make sure my CC was valid.

FYI--DataStorm Change to RTC-Vsat
Posted by: "Skip Knowles" skip2000dsdp@verizon.net skip_knowles
Mon Feb 13, 2012 7:02 am (PST)
I just got off the phone with Joe out at their office in Kilgore, TX and
asked him if they were going to continue what was done for those of us
getting service via DataStorm. In my case I need to to keep my account and
suspend it seasonally.
Joe said yes but they needed a week or so to get organized after taking
over. He expects to get a number of calls today since that notice went out
late last week... I was the first one.
Terminology is important as a new account can be $300 according to him and
seasonal suspension is $50 which is what DataStorm charged me the last three
years I used them. Since I got into DS without a big front end fee three
years ago I wasn't familiar with that kind of fee. When calling to get off
of suspension he would obviously need the modem info like SAN, S/N and old
Site ID of your modem. For the time being there should be continuity... just
not yet sure if the pricing will change.... these days nothing ever goes
down!!! ;-))
One might keep this in mind. There may be other VARs out there with better
pricing. I suspect VARs make their money to cover the administrative cost
and any profit from the fees and not so much the margin in a monthly mark
up.
They don't have the web page to do any of this right now but it will come.
For the time being it will take a phone call to them and they will set you
up.
