I am looking for a good reliable satellite internet service. Are you satisfied with the service you have. Please let me know. I travel only on the west coast and into Arizona for the winter. Looking to hear from you.

I recommend StarBand, because you can get your installer certification and
tech support is in the US!

The short answer is yes. But, any such satellite service is a shared service
so there are rules and parameters to use it can vary a little. So, you need
to manage your expectations.

I have found sometimes things can be slow but the Hughes service is pretty
reliable. De[ending on which satellite and transponder you are assigned,
plus Hughes reconfiguring customer assignments can make things look a little
slow on occasion.

Remember you are conversing with the internet via satellite and the inherent
delay introduces latency. If you understand that and also understand that in
the boonies there is no other choice then you are OK. That's what I mean by
managing your expectations. If you compare to cell service via air cards the
interactive speed is faster as latency is not as much as an issue.

I've been using it for six years in the mountains and it is very good
considering there is no other alternative technology.

Set up is a learned challenge to any portable user. ... it can drive you
nuts at times especially of you are impatient. There are subtle tricks to
get used to as well for set up...specifically in running the ranging.

I agree with Barb. Starband is what I use. There are lots of things to consider, mostly what you feel your needs are. If you move a lot and aren't "handy" maybe the automatic system would be for you. On the other hand with practice my dish on a tripod goes up easily enough and the hardware was a lot cheaper.

Like Skip said, neither Starband nor Hughes is cable internet. If you want to download a movie every night you will be disappointed. I have a thing about the new pictures from Mars, and have no problems. (I do remember that when Rover first landed I lived about 6 miles from Goddard Space Center in MD. I was using dial-up and figured it took longer for pictures to get to my house from Goddard than it took to get to Goddard from Mars!)

I upgraded to DSL. I have fair luck listening to wabanars, some dropouts some times. Due to the latency throughput seems to be a little "lumpy."
