Re: [pakgrid] why 3.0 CGPA for PhD Admission

MB,

I cannot speak for the other universities you mentioned but I am personally familiar with IQRA University and their rigrous course work, strict exams assessement and high standards to accept research proposal and thesis. Calling IQRA Univesity's Ph.D an easy-to-earn degree is a far from true and demands your personal visit to the univeristy and meeting the research department heads.

As its very normal in Pakistan Why cannot somebody may use his references or source to get into Phd?Phd degree can be earned by source and reference too. According to a Pakistani Minister a degree is degree whether its jaali or real.

Why cannot one may get easy Phd degree from Biztek or IQRA or SZABIST?

Quality vs Quantity argument has no ends. Simply put: we need both.

If the Supervisor is OK to take the student and University is OK to take the student even if he/she has CGPA<3.0 than HEC should have no objection. Admission of a student is at strictly University's discretion. HEC should focus on specifying the quality criterion of the research produced and ask the Universities to implement those criterion. What's wrong with that?

There is no guarantee of degree from MAJU without hard work, You have to earn it by yourself! PhD is not something that one register and get that degree paper after several years. One should and have to show something to be able to get degree.

As far as HEC is concerned I thing some rules regarding PhD need to be revised, primary focus or you can say all attention should be on research instead of Course work then comprehensive. 18 years of education are enough for course work. As for as admission is concerned every one who got 18 years of education should be given chance to compete for PhD.

Yes, its totally unfair. If a HEC recognised institute issues MS degree, then its right of the student to take admission in PhD.

Salam,

I hear that HEC has set up 3.0 CGPA requirement for admission in PhD, whereas the passing criteria for MS degree is 2.5.

If a person with fairly good academic record has not been able to secure a CGPA of 3.0 or above then he/she is deprived of getting admission in PhD.

Furthermore, students with equal CGPA from different universities have different calibre.

With this email, I would like to float a resolution, that the admission in PhD should be the discretion of a university rather than HEC, i.e. every person who has cleared MS should be able to get admission in PhD provided he/she fulfils the criterion of a particular university.

kind regards,
-adnan
