[pakgrid] Full-time researcher position at HP Labs‏

***Full-time position at HP Labs***

HP Labs is a leading industrial research organization with more than 500 researchers worldwide.  Our research areas cover a wide range of engineering disciplines.  As such, we recruit top talents around the world regardless of their background and specific areas of expertise.  Ideal candidates must show substantial achievements in his/her area of study, be highly motivated, and be capable of learning and working in unfamiliar domains.

The Services and Solutions Research Laboratory within HP Labs, Palo Alto, is looking for a researcher to help develop systems and software that can be used to support affordable services to small business customers at a cloud scale. Challenges include understanding how applications can be migrated to the cloud and made large scale; how they can leverage IaaS and PaaS offerings from current cloud vendors; and how specialized niche services can be supported within a partner ecosystem to expand service capability in an agile and cost-effective manner.  Challenges to be addressed include:

1.       Examining the technical barriers that impede migration of services to cloud hosting environments in a scalable manner, and find solutions which can be applied across many scenarios. Solutions may take the form of "migration assistance tools," architectural principles, or foundational toolkits that help move single-machine applications to scalable multi-tenant services.
2.       Exploring how scalable services can be architected and realized using "scalable building blocks" composed of service components that are reusable across multiple services and customers.
3.       Developing policy specification and enforcement frameworks, such that sensitive customer data in the cloud environment is protected in order to meet regulatory compliance, while at the same time allowing collaborative and seamless data sharing among customers.
4.       Developing service deployment models that can be quickly provisioned in public, private, or hybrid cloud settings, as well as in settings where network connectivity is not guaranteed.
5.       Explore service development and delivery models that make the services economically viable both to the service provider and the service consumer.

This position requires deep knowledge and hands-on experience with distributed systems and service-oriented computing, which include database, transactional and parallel processing, high availability and fault tolerance, and other related disciplines. This position also requires strong object-oriented programming (Java related platforms preferred). Experience with cloud-based system development and knowledge of secure computing (e.g., identity management, access control and encryption) are desired but not required.

Qualified candidates please email your CV to Jun Li (jun.li@hp.com).
