We have Post Doctoral Researcher positions open at the Advanced Research Lab on Geospatial Information Sciences and Engineering (GISE), Department of Computer Science & Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay starting May 2010. The GISE Reserach Lab is funded from a grant from The Department of Science and Technology, Government of India. The Lab's reserach areas and on-going work is available at www.gise.cse.iitb.ac.in.
The lab serves as a center of excellence in research related to spatial and spatio-temporal data, geovisualisation and analytics, service oriented architectures and software engineering of geospatial systems. We are seeking post-docs to carry out independent research on topics related to Innovative Spatial Information Acquisition, Modeling and Analytics of GI, Data structures and algorithms for geospatial applications, Human Computer Interaction and Visualisation of GI, Infomation classification, search, integration and inter-operability (in the geo-spatial context). They are expected to undertake fundamental research in handling spatial information, participate in standardization activities including terminology, evaluation, and methodology besides investigating interdisciplinary aspects of geospatial information.
Applicants should have a recent Ph.D. degree in GIScience, Computer Science,
Mathematics or Spatial Statistics. Knowledge and representative publications in the areas indicated above are desirable. Successful candidates will conduct research, assist with project oversight, and provide some supervisory support for graduate and undergraduate students working on the project. The initial appointment will run for one year with possible extension of 2 - 3 years.
